Frequently Asked Questions
- 1. What internships will be available this year?
- While Expedia has a group of internships that are typically offered, specific internship offerings vary year by year. If you’re interested in a technical or undergraduate business internship, plan on viewing an opening in September or October. MBA internships will typically be finalized and posted in December/January.
- 2. How are internships structured?
- Internships in the United States usually last 10-12 weeks. Interns start in May/June and finish their projects in August/September. We realize you have a life outside of school and work, and will do our best to accommodate any schedule constraints you may have.
Internships outside of the United States have a different structure and can often be longer or shorter than the standard US internship. Our team will work with you to define the time commitment for internships that are outside of the standard US 10-12 week timeline.
- 3. Do you offer co-ops?
- Expedia offers co-ops on a case-by-case basis (we tend to focus on summer internships). Check out our website for co-op openings and feel free to visit one of our events to get the latest scoop on what will be offered.
- 4. I’m an international student. Am I eligible to apply for an internship or full-time position?
- If you’re an international student, and have authorization to legally work at the location a specific internship is offered, you are welcome to apply for an internship. You are also welcome to apply for full-time positions, although visa assistance is only offered on a case-by-case basis. During the interview process your recruiter will talk to you about the specifics of our visa sponsorship process.
- 5. I've applied online. Now what?
- We'll take a look at your application to see if there's a fit. If we see one (and we hope we do), one of our recruiters will set up an initial phone interview. If you're not selected to interview for the position you applied to, we'll send an email to let you know.
- 6. What happens after the phone interview?
- It depends on the position you're applying for, but one of two things will happen next. We'll contact you again to set up a second phone interview, followed by an in-person interview. Or, we'll invite you to interview with someone at our office right away.
- 7. I met your team at a career event and had an on-campus interview. What are the next steps?
- If you interview with us through a university career fair or event, our team will follow-up with your feedback within approximately two weeks of your interview. If we still think there’s a fit between your background and the role (and you’re still interested in the position), we’ll bring you on-site for a final round of interviews. Your on-campus interview essentially acts as an in-person “phone screen” (see question #6 above).
- 8. So if you want to meet me in person, will you pay for travel?
- Absolutely! We’ll cover your flight, meals, and related travel expenses (your recruiter will give you the details). We want you to focus your energy on the final interview and discovering if Expedia, Inc. is the place for you.
- 9. What should I do before my on-site interview?
- Take the time to learn a thing or two about Expedia, Inc. Visit our website at expediainc.com to learn more about our family of brands (yes, we know there are a lot of them). Research and become familiar with the travel industry and how Expedia fits in it.
- 10. What should I wear?
- Aim for business casual (although you will certainly see some employees in jeans). If you want to wear a suit, go for it. Basically, just plan to wear something interview appropriate that lets you feel comfortable and confident.
- 11. What happens on the day of my interview?
- You’ll meet a recruiter who will get to know your background more and go over your interview schedule. During the course of the day, you can expect to meet with four to five people, for about an hour each.
- 12. How long before I know the results of my final interview?
- Once you've interviewed with us we will let you know where you stand as quickly as possible (usually in about two weeks).
- 13. What projects will I work on in my internship or full-time role?
- Specific projects vary by the role you apply to and will be finalized when you start work at Expedia, Inc. Rest assured that your project and role will make an impact on Expedia, Inc.’s business.
- 14. When do we talk about compensation details?
- We know this is an important subject for everyone, but we recommend you use your interview for information gathering. The recruiter you work with will be happy to answer any questions you have about compensation and benefits before or after your interview.
- 15. I have a question about campus recruiting that wasn’t answered here. Is there anyone I can contact?
- Our team is happy to answer any questions you have about the interview process, the details of a specific internship, or what it’s like to work at Expedia, Inc. in general. You are welcome to email our campus team at campus@expedia.com if you have any questions. Please note that emailing your resume to this address does not mean you will be considered for a position. All applications must be submitted through our website. Resumes emailed to this address will not be considered formal applications for a role.
