Expedia Cares
Expedia, Inc. is committed to being a good corporate citizen in the communities where our employees live and work, and where our travelers visit. We believe that supporting the social, environmental and economic conditions of the communities where we do business can positively impact the future and well-being of our company, our employees, our industry and the world. Together, we can help make our local and global communities great places for generations to come.
Here are some of the programs that represent our approach to corporate citizenship.
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières
Expedia, Inc. is pleased to support the work of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian organization working in more than 60 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe. Expedia and its employees support DWB/MSF by providing support for disaster relief efforts, such as the 2010 Pakistan floods.
Local Community Engagement
Expedia, Inc. engages in a variety of charitable partnerships in the cities where our offices are located around the globe. We support local communities through employee volunteerism, non-profit board membership; community service days; drives to gather food, clothing and toys; and company grants to support local non-profit programs. Recent community engagement initiatives include:
Matching Gifts
Expedia, Inc. supports the causes its employees care about through its matching gift program. Employee contributions made to 501(c)(3) organizations and educational institutions are matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 annually for employees based in the United States and Canada. In addition, Expedia, Inc. has offered special 2:1 matching gift incentives to employees globally to support disaster relief efforts, such as the earthquake in Haiti and flooding in Pakistan.
TravelRelief.org
Through the Expedia Affiliate Network (EAN) TravelRelief program, non-profit organizations may raise money by encouraging their supporters to book hotel nights through TravelRelief.org. With each eligible booking, the charity will receive at least 8% of the hotel booking price. Visit www.travelrelief.org for more information.
Sustainable Travel and Tourism
UNESCO World Heritage
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized nearly 900 cultural and historical sites around the globe with the World Heritage designation honoring their relevance as global treasures. Our company helps to educate and engage the traveling public about protecting and preserving these global treasures via dedicated initiatives on Expedia and TripAdvisor.
Employee Consultancy Projects
Expedia has hosted pro-bono employee service consultancies that support the development of sustainable tourism practices in small communities around the globe. These projects convene groups of our employees from around the world to provide tourism, marketing, web, and general business support in an effort to help small communities build their economies while sustaining the local culture and resources.
Green Travel Options
Expedia offers green travel options to our customers including the opportunity to purchase carbon offsets to counterbalance the environmental impact of air travel. Expedia has partnered with TerraPass, a leading carbon offset provider, to help travelers easily reduce their carbon footprint. Offsets purchased fund clean energy and carbon reduction projects. In addition, Expedia offers travelers hybrid car rentals, green hotel options, and tips for responsible travel.
